Backstory

Ayaka was born south of Little Solace in the East Shroud to parents Rhela Jawantal and Bathus'a Kage. Growing up in a small village of fellow Miqo'te she learned to hunt at an early age, and often got into trouble with the other families or with others living in the Shroud. Once the Calamity struck, Ayaka followed her father as he chose to fight for their village. However, this led to her witnessing her father's untimely demise.

In the aftermath of the Calamity, Ayaka's family could hardly make ends meet. Therefore, Ayaka resorted to stealing from much wealthier homes outside of her village to help her family get by. She was eventually caught by the local craftsman's wife, Ystride Norbettaux. She made a dramatic fuss over catching the teenage Miqo'te in her home, and had her husband drag Ayaka back to the village, publicly shaming her for the theft. Ayaka was utterly ashamed, believing she could no longer face the village again.

With help of some unfamiliar individuals she had encountered, she was able to gather the resources needed to leave Gridania for good and eventually found herself alone in Limsa Lominsa. Resorting to old ways, Ayaka attempted to rob people at knifepoint at the age of fifteen until a Roegadyn woman named Manami Hino found her in the markets. Seeing Ayaka was a traumatized child in desperate need of help, Manami extended an offer of food and shelter. Ayaka willingly accepted it, though it would take her plenty of time to fully trust the woman.

Ayaka ended up living with Manami for about four years. When she turned nineteen, Ayaka decided to take up adventuring. This was when she finally got her hands on an axe and set off into La Noscea to pursue what would soon solidify her future as the Warrior of Light.

Warrior

Live by the axe, they say. Ayaka is a warrior through and through, and it's rare to see her fight without one. She entered the marauder's guild at the age of nineteen. With her aether naturally being aspected towards earth and fire, Ayaka's attacks are strong and not to be trifled with.

Sage

She was taught the basics of the art of the Sage by Alphinaud. It gave them plenty of time to bond while the twins were in Garlemald. Magic is not her forte, but Alphinaud is a patient teacher.

Red Mage

Ayaka attempted to learn the art of the Red Mage from Alisaie as well as another friend. While she struggles to grasp the manipulation of aether, she still enjoys the experience.

Gunbreaker

Despite potential family history in Bozja, Ayaka picked up a gunblade for the first time solely to duel recreationally with Thancred.

Reaper

After the Final Days were averted, Ayaka was left feeling oddly empty. On the search for anything she could to do make herself feel of use, she found herself stumbling upon the Lemures in Ul'dah.

Dark Knight

After Haurchefant's death, Ayaka's spirit was utterly destroyed. With her habit of keeping to herself, the grief and anger was allowed to build until she reached a breaking point. Not only did she confront her grief, but other festering emotions as well.
